The Night’s Watch has been the sentries on The Wall for centuries. Many long nights staring into the cold dark required a bold drink to stay sharp and alert. This coffee-based cocktail will keep the inner fires stoked while brave men keep a lookout.

The Night’s Watch vigil
In the Game of Thrones world, the Night’s Watch is an order made up of banished men and criminals sent to the edge of the world, consigned to stand guard atop a 700-foot wall constructed of ice and stone.
Their duties include protecting the realm to the south from Wildlings and White Walkers. We know Winter is coming. Soon these rugged men on The Wall will be called to action.
A Long Night’s Watch
In Season 8 we have seen the wall breached and the threat of the Army of the Dead closing in on Winterfell.
They can come at any time, and there won’t be an opportunity to get ready. So Jon Snow and the Brothers need to simply be ready.
They need a drink that will fortify their courage, numb their fears, and most importantly keep them alert for when the fight comes.
Coffee and Chocolate
This is a cocktail that will help us all stay frosty through the long night’s wait. It gets its punch from chocolate infused vodka, its body from cold brew coffee, its flavor from coffee and chocolate liquours, and its temperance from cream.
Combining two great liquours is provides a provocative blend of taste that compliments the chocolate vodka. Godiva makes a very nice chocolate liqueur with a smooth finish. My personal go-to coffee liqueur is Kahlua, but most any brand should produce great results.
“Night gathers, and now my watch begins.”
Vow of the Night’s watch
The night is cold and full of coffee
Cold brewed coffee, your own or store-bought, will make this drink long-lasting and immenently sippable.
I chose a Not Too Sweet Stok Cold Brew Coffee for this cocktail. It doesn’t have to be fresh from the fridge cold, but make sure it isn’t warm.
Light in the darkenss
Adding cream (or non-dairy alternatives) is a personal choice, but I find it smooths the layers of flavors and makes the drink a little more complex.
Plus, all that dark can be a little scary…

The Night is cold
Adding ice is another personal choice. Giving the cocktail something to swirl around helps mix the flavors up a little more.
Besides, we are well south of the The wall, and now is not the season for hot toddies.
But, feel free to omit ice if your Watch calls for it.

Keep your wits
It may be a long night’s watch, full of exposition and conversation. With the tension before the battle, one cannot be blamed if attention should wander.
But brace yourself with this invigorating and soothing drink. Then settle down and patiently wait for the terrors to strike.
You will be ready.

Ingredients
2 oz Chocolate Vodka
2 oz Kahlua Coffee Liquor
2 oz Godiva Chocolate Liqour
4 oz cold brewed coffee
1-2 oz cold cream or non-dairy substitute
Ice (optional
Directions
- In a cocktail mixer, combine vodka, Kahlua, Godiva, and coffee. Shake to combine.
- Add ice to large glass. Use large cubes to reduce melting time. Pour coffee mix over ice cubes.
- Pour cream over top of the cocktail. Either let it sit on top and trickle down on its own or give it a quick stir to mix.
- Sit by a warm fire, sword at the ready, and sip while keeping watch.
Notes
- Warming the drink will muddle the flavors too much. This is a cocktail best served cold.
